Client Overview

Our client is a premier manufacturer of the critical spectrum and power amplification systems for ground-based, airborne, satellite, Medical and Industrial missions for customers worldwide.

Business Challenge

Our client was divesting from its parent organization and had to achieve enterprise independence while ensuring business continuity. Some of the key challenges are listed below –

  • Divest away from shared resources and achieve enterprise independence
  • Initial review of the entire IT business application enterprise, disentangle applications and move to a foundational business architecture ready to onboard new business units and strategies
  • Robust & scalable architecture to assimilate future entities
  • Complete the separation of the IT services, applications, and infrastructure by the closing date which is a hard deadline as per the TSA (Transition Services Agreement)
  • Implement changes in the legacy architecture while ensuring business continuity

Our Solution

SixthUp team of enterprise architecture experts evaluated the client systems and adopted the 6 R’s model – Rehost, Replatform, Repurchase, Refactor, Retire, and Retain. These experts conducted 6 weeks of “Discovery & Assessment” of the client’s existing architecture and identified highly important business functions and low-hanging fruit—applications that require only small optimizations. The team then decided to follow the 3 phase-approach as listed below –

  • Simplified: Focus on technology standardization across Infrastructure, simplifying administration while focusing on reliability and availability and reducing headcount to manage multiple standards
  • Minimize Custom Development – Standard vendor applications and standardize customized development across Microsoft technologies. No dependencies on open-source technologies
  • Custom Development – Microservices Architecture Scalable, Reusable, Language Agnostic, Deployment Flexibility

Impact/Key Benefits to the Client

SixthUps proven principles, roadmaps, and reference architectures, drawn from many successful engagements, allowed the client to enforce best practices and adhere to architectural principles. Some of the key benefits experienced by the client are as follows –

  • Standardized (and simplified) technology stack across the organization
  • Scalable architecture that is adept to HA/DR strategy
  • Secure, resilient, and highly available architecture
  • Support technology with a lower headcount
  • Reduced application licensing costs leading to 25% cost-efficiency
